What is Osteopathy

Osteopathy is a form of manual medicine focusing on the movement of the whole body to attain health and vitality. Motion is life with all structures in the body need to move freely for optimal function and overall health.

Osteopathy can help identify regions of restriction and/or dysfunction within the body to facilitate the innate healing mechanism in restoring balance. Pain is often an indication that our movement patterns have become dysfunctional and sometimes these locations of restriction can be distant to the area of our symptoms.

Osteopathy focuses on the inter-relationships between structure and function of the body: the relationship between the bones, muscles, nerves, blood vessels, fascia, organs, etc. Essentially, osteopathy views the body not only as these parts but as a whole system working together to create balance and harmony.

An Osteopathic consultation incorporates an assessment and treatment of all the tissues of our body to find the dysfunction of the body and restore optimal functional movement, (E.g. the hip bones are connected to the leg bones as the song goes!).

Wingham osteopaths are experienced and view each person as a unique individual requiring personalised care.
